THE MID CAPE WEEKENDER · OCT. 28 – NOV. 3, 2026 · BARNSTABLE · YARMOUTH · DENNIS

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and the Mid Cape is spending the whole day on it. South Dennis starts at noon. Barnstable Village gathers at the bandstand at 1. Hyannis hands Main Street to the trick-or-treaters at 4, and seven old houses around Yarmouth Port's common keep their doors open until well after dark.

The grown-ups get their own nights. Cotuit's Monster Mash turns 25 on Friday. Cape Cinema shows The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween itself. And on Thursday, the Army's touring big band plays a free concert in Hyannis.

Then, at 2 a.m. Sunday, the clocks fall back. The quieter programs fill the hour you get back: an Irish trio, a book talk about the season's thinning veil, a seconds sale for potters' imperfect work, and a Tuesday that starts at the polls.

Choose the one that feels worth leaving the house for. Then see what else is happening nearby.

★ marks an editor's pick. Times are local wall-clock times: Eastern Daylight through Saturday, Eastern Standard from Sunday. Dates and prices were checked against organizer pages Wednesday morning, October 28; seats and tickets can change. Unless admission is explicitly listed as free, check the host rather than assume.

☀️ Weather: Friday is the gift, sunny with a high near 65. Halloween turns crisper, sunny and in the mid 50s, with a calm, dry evening. Sunday stays mostly sunny near 57. Monday is near 61 with showers possible by evening, and Election Day turns gray, with a 40% chance of showers.

🌅 Sunset: 5:36 PM Saturday, then 4:35 PM Sunday after the clocks change. The moon won't rise Saturday until about 10:40 PM, so the side streets will be properly dark. Pack a flashlight with the pillowcase.

🚗 Before You Head Out

Clocks, ballots, one closed street and two cancellations

Clocks: Standard time returns at 2 a.m. Sunday. Any event listed for Sunday onward is on the new clock.

Election Day: Massachusetts polls are open 7 AM–8 PM Tuesday. This week's spotlight on Question A covers the county question the state booklet skips.

Hyannis Main Street: Expect the street closed to traffic Saturday 4–6 PM for trick-or-treating. If you're headed to the ferry or the hospital, plan around it.

Cancelled: Wednesday's Sober Social at the Cultural Center is listed as cancelled. The Dennis Conservation Land Trust's member Halloween party is cancelled this year.

Registration: Cotuit Library's online calendar wasn't consistently reachable when we checked. If a Cotuit Library program says "register," confirm with the library before you go. For capacity-limited events, a posted date does not guarantee a seat.

⚓ One Last Thing

From the Celebrate Mid Cape crew

There's a version of Halloween that happens in big parking lots, and a version that happens on a common with seven old houses and a bowl of stale aspic.

This week the Mid Cape gets both. A field in South Dennis. A bandstand behind the courthouse. A dance floor in Cotuit that's been charging $10 for a quarter century.

Then Sunday comes, and the evening is an hour shorter. Use the light you have.

Send this to someone who lives three streets from one of these places and has never been inside.

See you next Wednesday.
